narcissus

Taken with Nikkor f3.5-4.5 28-70mm zoom. I used a 60 watt desk lamp with white lamp shade to light his face. The light was close enough to use a relatively fast shutter, and the lamp shade served to soften the light a bit. Too bad the fingers got washed out. All comments appreciated.

So the fingers are washed out, and there's nothing I can do about it.

I still quite like this image anyway, but I can't decide whether I

should keep the fingers white, or burn in as a flat grey. Which would

you prefer, white or grey?

Also, what do you like or not like about this photograph? All

comments appreciated.

If you shot this on TMY, as your tech info says, I'd suspect you may have detail in the highlight that burning in would reveal. If burning it in really does yield a flat gray, leave it.

If you really are stuck and there's no highlight detail, you could just crop the blown-out area and leave the top two fingers. I don't think that would hurt the image and it would keep the bright hand from drawing attention away from the face.

the eyes fixate in some mysterious sadness. It's a good shot - I wouldn't fret the washed out highlights. No one but a photographer (grappling with contol over the medium) would object.

I'd probably make them gray--still light, but not as light as they are now. I like the eyes best. Overall, nice shot!
