It appears that flower photography seems to be quite popular around

here (and everywhere else too, probably because of the natural beauty

of flowers, and the generally non-controversial nature of the subject

matter). I am presenting yet another flower photograph here - what I

want to know is: do you see something interesting in this picture, or

is it just another pretty flower pic? Do you think I could learn

anything by continuing to make flower photographs? Or should I pursue

something else? Do you feel that "it's all been done before"?

[This picture was taken where it was found, by the window, with

sunlight coming in through the window, camera handheld. No special

gimmicks or techniques, apart from turning the flower pot around to

make the shadows fall in the right place, and some Photoshopping to

fill in bright spots in the background.]

nice photo, i alternate between thinking "to contrasty" and "perfect contrast", mainly because the grays are so nice in the petals, yet there is no shadow detail and the hilights are burnt on the edges. re. the flower macros, there can never be too many. this one, for example, has a nice square crop, black bground, and the flowers form a curve thru the center, very pretty. it could use some more DOF in my opinion.

It's elegant in both composition and shading. It all has been done before. The process is the point and you've captured beauty - which is the misson as I understand it... Every frozen moment carries weight - the decision is the focus - controversy (or lack there of) be damned

There can never be too many flower shots in my opinion. Don't stop taking flower photos just because someone has done the shot before. Shoot because you enjoy the beauty of flowers - and most importantly, shoot to please yourself. I do!
