The black background leaves the seagull completely out of context. It seems like the bird was shot in the middle of the night, with insufficiant light. The bird itself is caught at a very interesting position with its wings forward like that.

Johannes - thanks for your comment. I used to show people this photo with the rock in the frame (from where the bird has jumped) but I tried cropping the rock out and the bird really stood out. That is why I am showing the picture this way. But, you have a point.
