venicia_l 0 Posted May 15, 2004 At the jungle's edge, under a rain cover on massive poles. These ocean-going canoes are used for races between Molokai and Oahu across one of the most treacherous bodies of water in the world. The rowing crews have monstrous muscle development in their arms and shoulders. It takes every ounce of strength the six-man crew has to move a boat about 60 feet to the water (and back at race end). I love the way saturated color and reflective surfaces can be moved up the exposure scale in this kind of light (very heavy overcast). I also love the Fujichrome Velvia-like color balance of the Fuji S2 digital sensor. VL Link to comment
simanta 0 Posted August 3, 2004 the left 1/3 of the frame doesn't add anything to my eye. It is balancing the picture a bit, but to be honest - don't look attractive. Link to comment
terrybutler 0 Posted September 17, 2004 It's not a great view of the canoes and the light is flat and uninteresting. Most of your other pictures, especially the flora, are stunning but this one doesn't match their quality. Link to comment
venicia_l 0 Posted September 19, 2004 Thanks for the comments. The day was leaden overcast, dripping with humidity. The boats were under a huge rain canopy. I wish I could have done more with the scene. I get to Molokai about once a month. I don't always have time to do this, but I intend to try to capture these forms again. Link to comment
