Sindoor

daryl walter

Scanned from slide.Pashupatinath is one of the holiest places of Hindu pilgrimage and there are stalls selling the various things used in Hindu worship (lamps, garlands, vermillion (or sindoor), etc.) dotted around the precinct of the main temple. For this picture I got in close to a selection of brightly coloured dyes that were on display.

Excellent find! Really like this composition of colors and textures. The shade adds volume and it makes the picture even more meaningful. Congratulations.

Not a fan of abstract-y work per se, but this really made me sit up and take notice - the fact that it is so vivid probably has plenty to do with that, so has the good depth of field throughout.

The colours, texture and lighting (plus the typical velvia signature) really make this a really eye-catching shot and it has the *pop* of a real keeper. Good work!

Truly excellent lights and colours!

Did you try to shoot some without the repeting red bags, shooting a bit more to the left getting only multicoloured powders?

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for taking the time to comment!

Vicki: I have this one on my wall already :)

Salvatore: I can't remember for sure if there were more bags to the left or not. I know what you mean though, the line of red bags does spoil the impact a bit. Thanks for the suggestion.

Daryl, a beautiful shot. The colors are magnificent and the nice side lighting adds much to the texture. The subtle blending of the surface colors also adds interest. Very nice.

Cheers Jamie. I think the comment above about the line of red bags highlights the slight spoiler for this image and its something I'm going to try and be more aware of in future.
