This is one of my favourite lakes in Canada.

I have been thinking about cropping this picture to get rid of the

wooden frame but I find it beautiful any way.

any comments?

I like this one ... but then again I love mountain lakes. :-)

I agree with you that the wooden box/frame in the bottom could be cropped out. It's a straight/artificial line in a shot that otherwise has no apparent man-made lines/elements in it. And since it's not a prime subject element, it becomes a distraction.

The only other thing I would have tried if I were there (and if the landscape cooperated) would be to get a framing element on the left side? you have a strong framing element with the trees on the right. If there was a tree on the left (or even a nice small foreground bit of shrubbery, it would make the viewer feel like they're coming out of the woods into this beautiful lake area. Failing that, maybe try cropping out the right most clump of trees, just leave the single tree on the right in to frame the shot. I found my eyes pulled to the heavy strip of darkness of the trees on the right but nothing there once my eye arrived.

I would also have been curious to try lower shot over the drift wood (e.g. put your camera only a foot or so above the ground?), so that maybe it would form a larger foreground element, with the mountains rising out of it. Play around with depth of field, etc.

A nice shot ... I'll have to go there sometime. :-)

you lost the highlights in the clouds ... not sure if you could do much to keep them without rest of image getting too dark. But if you bracketed the exposure, maybe the darker one might be better? Depending on the angle of the sun at the time maybe a polarizer would have helped (by darking the blue of the sky).
