Bird Crazy

tom_mccoy

While experimenting with Fuji RMS film and 15 Yr. old pet Medium Sulpher Crested Cockatoo 'TuTu" got into things. I decided to make the best of her curiosity, it worked. Now she loves photography especially on the camera end of the lens. I believe exposure was ISO 400 @ f8 with -1 stop fill flash.

I would like to hear from others regarding my photograph, I am a bit

concerned that the contrast might be too great in this picture using

slide film. I might try to shoot the image again using slower speed

or print film. Any ideas or recommandations?

thanks in advance.

------humorous ---was there another cockatoo in the trees "TuTu' was interested in? What is the telephotos rig attached?

Eyecatching, funny and original. Technically, however, there is some room for improvement, IMHO. Assuming that you can recreate the scene at will, I would use softer light, reduce depth of focus, perhaps also move in closer and lower the level of the camera (I mean the one which is taking the picture, not the one in the picture!) to give more importance to the subject.

Also, I'd eliminate the camera strap, blow out the background completely, level the tripod, and add a more 'natural' perch for the bird.

I do love the originality of this photo. Narrow the depth of field next time so the bird and the camera are sharply in focus, and everything else is blurred. One thing I would have liked to see is this taken from another angle, lower perhaps and with you a closer to the subject. Great idea though.

Yes Robert and others, that really is the theme, the object was to use the 500 mm Tamron to photograph birds including Tutu however, it turned out that the bird shooting bird shot was some of her foolishness. I am going to consider all of the fine advice posted and try it again, hopefully she'll have figured out some new positions for me... haha Maybe I need to put some people at the other end of the lens to add a REAL twist? Thanks all!

G'day Mate, well I think any photo that has Cockatoos in them are good but I have a Greater Sulphur Crested female called Charlie, she is 8 year old and If I let her get as close to any of my cameras as that she would have all the top knobs off and back open within 30 seconds, yes it is a top photo for the time you would have had to compose it, HAS SHE HAD A CHEW ON IT ???? Im downunder in Australia, I have photos on webshots under vk7zdj in community
