Portknockie sunrise

ian cameron

Portknockie has some spectacular cliff scenery. Never-the-less when I arrived to greet the dawn at an ungodly 3.30am sunrise looked distinctly unpromising. Thank heavens I stayed. A vibrant magenta glow and the briefest of sunrises I have ever witnessed, lasting just enough time to expose the film (20 seconds) and then it vanished. I was a very happy man.

The composition is excellent...and I really like the softness of the water with the long exposure. I'm not sure if I am seeing it right or not, but the horizon line looks slightly off kilter. (It looks like it is slanting downwards from right to left.) I really like the image. I think you did a great job on it.

When opportunity meets preparation...

You are one lucky guy. I have a photographer friend who hiked to a particular overlook for 30 days in a row to capture the perfect 30 seconds of light. Well done.

Sunrise lasted barely long enough to complete the exposure. The

colours are identical to the transparency sitting on my light box.

Hope you like it.

This has all the elements of a classic composition. But beyond that is the amazing detail in the foreground given the light direction. Also the combination of warm and cool colors really catch the eye - Nicely done!

For me it's the greens in the photo that do it for me. Lovly composition. Rajeev, I couldn't help but go look @ your portfolio after your comment. I don't think you problem is skill, I think it's film. All of those landscapes should be shot on Velvia, it's the only way to go.

IMHO, it seems like PN has gone a bit downhill lately in terms of quality sumbmissions. Thanks for such work like yours that brings back credibility. Very, very well executed and such a reward to view.

Very well-seen and well-composed. The pastel colours add to the serene mood. My only nitpick is that the sky seems to be slightly over-filtered, being visibly darker than the water. Perhaps a soft-edge ND might work a little better.

Beautiful photo, to live in the UK and not visit Scotland is a crime! Excellent portfolio. I would agree with the comment about the green and yellow moss.
