I was snorkeling in the Red Sea when this group of dolphins was swimming in my

direction. I had just a few seconds to think about my composition until they were just

below me. They were so fast, any attempt to chase them would have been futile. An

exhilarating experience that kept my adrenalin working overtime and my hands shaking.

Other than that, can it get any simpler?

WOW! What a fabulous shot. The ranges of blue & black are very pleasing. Are the colours what you actually saw?

That's simply amazing, I wouldn't have thought of them being dolphins. I imagined them as little fish swimming below you.

Not everyday you would encounter something like this. Great marine-life photography. Almost an abstract of blue shades and silhouettes. Awesome shot.

The more time you spend in the water the more amazing things you see. You've captured a magical moment with perfect lighting and good composition despite being a "grab shot".

Thanks for sharing, and consider these comments helpful or rubbish as you see fit.

Jerry Lee Bee,

I don't think that this can be my shadow. This is probably part of the underwater growth on the sea bottom. Notice how the dolphins which were just above the ground left a soft shadow, whereas those a little higher above already left no shadow. I was about 5 metres above them.

Just a little contrast.

I agree its a beautiful image. I'm puzzled however. You are a long way from your subject. Even in VERY clear water one would expect the water to filter a deeper blue, at least that has always been my experence even in very clear water. Was this corrected somehow?

Douglas; As I mentioned in an earlier reply, I only intensified the contrast slightly so that the dolphins would stand out more clearly against the sunlit bottom. In some of the wreck photos, however, I did desaturate the blue to various extents to give them a more eerie look.
