martin berkas photos 0 Posted July 24, 2001 This picture is from near the Elfin lakes in BC. the coast makes for really interesting weather which then makes for really interesting exposure conditions. what is the right way of metering on snow with light like this?? Link to comment
liar 0 Posted July 24, 2001 A grey Card works well in such situations, but if you catched with nothing at hand, as the shadows are not harsh and pure black, you can measure the light from them or any trees light green areas IMHO. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted July 24, 2001 I like this photo, and I normally don't like ski shots. Did you meter the cloud? That's what I probably would have done. Did you use any kind of filter--neutral density or some other? That would have helped to even out the light sources a little. For me, the cloud is just a little too bright, but this is still a fine photo. Nice work! Link to comment
jafar 0 Posted July 24, 2001 Graduate filter for the sky and when you meter the ice try to increase the aperture in one step because the camera meter fooled with the whit color surfaces "Thats why some white surfaces turned to gray colorso it minimize the aperture, I hope that will help Link to comment
martin berkas photos 0 Posted July 25, 2001 Thank you for the comments. I think I metered on the darker part of the cloud. I did not use any filters or manipulation after scanning. In fact, the scanned immage looks worse than the original - too much contrast. Link to comment
tedrttr 0 Posted July 26, 2001 When taking photos that are dominated by a lot of brightness like snow, take a meter reading off the snow and then overexpose by about one and a half stops, this will make the snow look white instead of having some shade of gray,or try using a polarizer, still a great picture though.
