Shot taken from the platform at Brooks Falls in Alaska. Katmai National Park. Bear was standing on top of Brooks Falls and did wait for a salmon. As you can see, he was very succesful.Proframe Photography

Welcome Harry, this site really need photographers ... great you are here now :o))) perfect catch of the grizzly, I would usually rate with a 6/6 (often seen, and for the burnout in the water) but I will do 7/7 anyway because I know real photograhy hard stands.

I don't often see this, and I recall canoeing in white water (sans any bears!) which doesn't bother me since the animals dominate the frame. As to 'the catch' both Yogi Bear (the American toon character) and Yogi Berra (the American baseball icon) would be proud!

My secretary saw this and commented that it looked like a National Geographic photo, so nice job. Of course, I think a very similar one was in NG, so no bonus points for originality, but the aesthetics are top notch.

Nice to see your work here. I've seen these shots before on Photopoints and they are worth seeing again. Superb.

WHY DO YOU THINK THIS SITE NEEDS PHOTOGRAPHERS FRED V?? Bit of an insult, I feel, to the many extra ordinary shots produced. And considering most are from amateurs, not pros like your goodself, their work is quite often up to pro level. Anyways, re this here old bear, apart from having being shot catching a salmon, it has NO spectacular back/side lighting, nor unusual perspective or dramatic camera angle/position, to have made this photo extra ordinary..Harry, the photgrapher of this shot, who is a semi.pro, I am sure knows these points..

mmmmm salmon. Bear eats better than I do. Definitely not original and knew exactly where this was taken without reading the location for this, but an outstanding shot nevertheless. I never get tired of looking at it and one of those shots I think any nature photographer strives to have in their portfolio. Great work!

Since I have seen countless "bear catching salmon" photos I am patiently waiting to see "bear with Nikon(Canon)camera in mouth." Now that would grab my attention.

Great shot...There are grizzly bears in the mountains around me, and they don't like having their pictures taken, so it is extrememly difficult to get shots without a superlong telephoto lens, and a guide with a gun, - just in case...They are fearsome creatures.

Good timing to get the animal in profile and in the right light. Highlite of visible teeth adds interest. In contrast to Fred V, above, I commend the exposure/processing choice to let the water highlights go to capture the texture of the fur.

Fine photo from a fine portfolio.
