Not bad for using only one flash. What kind of equipment do you use to trigger your flash? What does the color version look like? The angle is decent but you can't see where he is going to land and you can't really tell if he is jumping the stairs or just jumping off after grinding the rail. Feel free to check out my work and let me know what you think. Cheers!

There is a reason why that light is over the guys face. You can basically consider that light as "ambient" light, therefore you must underexpose that light and overpower it with your flash. Or if you were meaning to give it the look of movement then there is nothing more than moving so that light isn't behind your subject. BTW sorry to hear about your 550, I've learned to place my flashes in areas that aren't as dangerous as below the skaters.

but i left it off cuz i didn't want to light up the whole scene, i like the shadows the way they are for the most part.

the other one is easier to tell what he's doing, but i think that the inteded audience of this photo would be able to tell for the most part...

thanks for the comment/questions

AND :-D i did move so that the light wouldn't be in the way, but then i couldn't fit mike (sk8er) into the shot because i can't afford a fisheye right now... and then he messed up his hand and quit

Shadows are definitly cool and I wouldn't want this image to be completely flash ridden. I think if you had maybe put the flash alittle further away from the stairs you might have been able to give the stairs and such more light and definition. I would also consider getting some pocket wizards to trigger your flashes or flash. They are very consistant in all lighting conditions and because they are not line of sight like the optical triggers of the 550's you can use put them anywhere at anytime and the flash will trigger. cheers!

I especially like the flash placement, which puts the shadow up onto the ceiling. Good use of the 550's remote flash capability. I gotta get me one of those. Someday...
