Night portrait

Please tell me what you think of this photo

A few points that immediately struck my eye:

- The background lines convey a sense of dynamics, motion towards some point far off to the left. Unfortunately, this momentum is somewhat broken by the line of bolts at the left side of the shot, perhaps it might work better for me if these were cropped.

- The face is very slightly out of focus, I am unsure whether this disturbs me or adds to the feeling of motion... perhaps an idea for another shot would be to have him look intensely towards that unseen point... afraid of what's coming or longing for something far off or.. well whatever.. :)

- the bolt close to his mouth: I think my first thought was that it looks a bit like the microphone of a headset and thus works with the overall-style jacket, but the longer I see it, the more I think it disturbs the picture by drawing my eye towards it.

- I like the lighting, expecially on the background and I think the completely dark shadows on the right works well.

 

Very good impact, but then I have to share the things written above. Minor things, anyhow, except for the out-of-focus. Anyhow a 5/6 shot!

This is quite a dramatic fresh portait, again I agree with the previous comments, did you take any with his face in focus and the wall blurred? Very good concept.

Thanks for all your help. I don't think his head is out of focus (distance). but I think he moved. The shutter was open 30 seconds.....
