I think you got it. Made me have a double-take! You just don't imagine scene's like this at such a land mark place. Love it. Makes you feel like one of the wonders of the world is just another spot where you can chill out.

Great pic...and one of the most unusual prespectives I've ever seen.

Nitpicking: The edge of the boat should be a little removed from the reflection of the tower.

This is beautiful and so unexpected. It's so unlike any picture of the Taj Majal I've ever seen. Congratulations and thanks.

I noticed just today that the "originality" ratings seem to have been redefined as "cleverness." In general, I think this is a wise decision on the part of the elves since it is next to impossible to be completely original anymore. HOWEVER, while I have seen plenty of reflection shots, I don't think I have ever seen one of such a famous landmark composed in such an interesting way - like the guy was at his summer cottage or something. Hence, this is, IMHO, very original. Additionally, from an aesthetics perspective, the muted tones of the taj mahal contrast very nicely with the bold colors of the boat.

I would agree with the above nitpick though commenting upon the "merging" of the reflection with the front of the boat. Another minor nitpick would be that the reflection of the taj mahal is slightly askew in relation to the top of the frame and is therefore somewhat distracting. And a third minor nitpick would be the article of clothing - or whatever it is - on the left side of the boat. Again, this is somewhat distracting. I am only being so picky because this photo is so near perfection in my mind. I would love to have a picture such as this grace the walls of my humble abode. Congrats to the photographer!!!

Thanks to all the folks who have commented - I appreciate the kind words and especially the so-called nitpicks - its these criticisms that help me become a better photographer. This picture did appear in Pop Photo in Jan 2000 as a 2nd prize winner in their annual contest. I am now putting some of my photos on this site in order to receive constructive criticism rather than 'prizes' - the encouraging words and suggestions for improvement are worth more than a prize. Learning what a large number of people think about my photos is also helping me edit and construct a presentable portfolio. Thanks again to everyone who rated and especially those who gave criticisms.

I can't help but think the boat was added digitally. Who cares? It works. If the purpose of a photo is to keep the viewer's eye moving; this one certainly does. The vivid color against the low key background adds to the image. I would have liked to see a higher rating. I gave it 8/8

Nope, this is not a digital manipulation. It is a single slide image. The sky was a strange overcast which made shooting a direct shot of the taj uninteresting, but made the reflection a bit eerie. A few minutes after this was taken we got hit by a sandstorm blowing up the river bed that trapped us on this side of the river for an hour.

Very nice image. With the exception of the tip of the boat overlapping one of the Taj's towers, and the reflection of the RUC building (in my opinion pretty distracting), excellent job.

I´m impressed. Very well done. This requires the eye of an experienced photographer.

I´m sure you have thought about slightly rotating the picture to make the top part perfectly horizontal, and you did not. I would be interested in knowing your thinking on this.

Your comments are on target I think - I wanted to post the photo pretty much as taken to receive feedback on how it could be improved; many of the thoughts posted here could be implemented with some photoshop finagling which I will experiment with... Thanks
