Excellent work, great illumination, sharp focus, huge DOF for this magnification, beautiful colors and perfect scene "atmosphere". Only suggest that could be cropped slightly on top (lessen upper room). Best regards from Spain.

This ant was drinking so much sap that the rear almost exploded :)

It seems like you like this picture :)

I am a bit suprised over the the fact that this should be the best picture in my portfolio.

Regarding the suggestion about cropping I always try to do that when I take the shot, soo this is what it looks like.

Thank´s again for the comments and nice rating!

Hello

What F stop did you use and what lighting?

Focus is excellent, but are they cropped.

With that kind of lens, unless you have a large extension tube, you cannot get more than life size. How long are the ants?

This is a link to one of my images.

It was with a Olympus 38 mm and a 100mm extension.

TTL flash and f11 on Kodachrome.

Mike,

I used apature 14 and 1/200s and a ETTL sigma flash. This picure is not cropped, I used a lens called MP-E65mm it starts at lifesize and ends at 5X. This is not true for me thoug when I use a 300d wich makes a magnification of 1,6. The ant is quite big , it is abot 1cm.

Hello

Thanks for the reply. I have been looking at the lens details. If this image is at 1.6 magnification, what distance are you from the object? Does the lens have a built in extension tube, for the higher magnification. Do you use a brighter focussing screen or is it the standard one, or does the flash have illumination as well as flash. My experience of getting so close to the object is that one tends to cast a shadow on the object, making focussing difficult.

Have you a photograph of your setup showing how the lens extends? The Canon site does not show a great deal.

Anyway well done.
