ljk 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Rust. Disuse. Neglect. Age. Interest. Patina. Nostalgia. Good. Very good. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 18, 2004 I like this backdrop you are using. That light coming from the right side makes one think of an old shed on a farm and light coming in through a window. If the wood around these objects was also well-worn with age, especially on the floor, it would work better. Although, I guess you could surmise the farmer has repaired his favorite old shed floor and the lantern and mailbox will be next. I like this series, Ken. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Thanks ya'll - got one more - hopefully saving the best for last ...... maybe not. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted April 18, 2004 Ken, you must have a warehouse full of props! Very nice work--as always. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Turning into one Lannie ...... The mail box I fished out of the ash bin at the Post Office, the wooden pallets I 'borrowed' from local construction sites, the chain I found hanging in a tree on a recent hike - got some strange looks from people I passed on the trail carrying that thing .... and the lantern I recently acquired for 15$ complete with antique moths inside the glass - hmmmmm - Triassic period I think. bekster 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Ken, This looks like it was made up in the rafters of the old barn, gently daylight streaming in through the window. Very nice! Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted April 18, 2004 Ken, Ditto, all the positive comments above. What grabs me is the simplicity. The window light (single source) & the textures of the wood and metal objects. The chain is almost invisible in the deep shadow but seems to work very well when you finally see it. Works well in B&W too (my current wallpaper version) :) Best, LM. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Thank you Becky - spider webs would make a nice addition - I'm workin on that ...... (-; Nice to see you again Len - some of these items might have a special meaning to you - being raised on a remote Canadian farm. And yes, of the 3 images I'll be uploading - this is the one that I think would look best in B&W - thank you Sir. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted April 18, 2004 Very well done Ken. Looks so natural, as if you stumbled upon this instead of it being set up Link to comment
1000wordsphotography 0 Posted April 19, 2004 I really like the colors/tones in this one. If you had a saddlebag draped over the wood beside the chain, it would remind me (even more than it already does) of the film ... The Postman. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Thanks Ken - trying to get better at posed vs. composed ......... discussing still life composition with some Art teachers here at the University. They say it should be posed as in 'composed' vs. just dumping things out on the table - anyone's grandmother could do that they said. So yes, they should be (com) posed. Thanks for the idea Regina - now I have to find a fr***ing saddle ........ lol ....... gonna need a warehouse like Lannie said. I guess a cowboy should have a saddle though - volunteers ? ...... smiling out loud. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Personally, I think that this looks VERY much composed, as opposed to "posed". Great work, as always, Ken! Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Thanks Lou Ann - I think I need to accept the fact that 'composed' IS 'posed' and not get so hung up on not making it look posed. Just compose it and let it go ...... thanks again - don't have a saddle do ya? ........ sol Link to comment
donnaalbers 0 Posted April 19, 2004 I like the cool tones and the soft lighting and the fine detail of the rust on the mailbox. And Lou Ann is right, the composition is perfectly balanced. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Linda - There may be a posse, ropes, six-shooters and Longhorns involved -- one must be prepared to be rode hard and put up wet - so 'Western' saddle for sure ..... !! ........ However, in Texas, hunting foxes is never out of the question .... (-; Thank you Donna, Sarah and Zacarias .... Link to comment
w. roger keagle 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Ken, never dull around here, now this is even better, puts the rest to shame ! The light seems to have changed, cooler and softer. Not sure about the "Excited" mail box, but love the lamp and chain.....And you KNOW I would have to love the title,On ya mate !*R* Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Apparantly Linda will provide the saddle ... we don't keep such things around our nation's capitol except for the calvary. :-) Link to comment

someoneelse 1 Posted April 20, 2004 Shal I give a comment?????? Yes I will, love the metalic blue, the darkness with the light, the vertical and horizontal lines, the objects, the blue and brown wood, the perfect black around the horizontal brown wood. And rust means in dutch: peace or calmness. So everything fits Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 20, 2004 Maybe the mailbox contains a mail order prescription. I get those email offers all the time! Link to comment
