kevphoto 0 Posted April 17, 2004 After a long day canyoneering, the group heads out. Blown out highlights unavoidable. Any other critique? Link to comment
inge johnsson 0 Posted April 17, 2004 Nice, but I would used a little longer lens to compress the walls and make the people larger in the frame. Avoid blown-out overexposed areas such as top of walls. Link to comment
sushrut_patel 0 Posted April 17, 2004 I like the composition, colors and details in the rocks. Link to comment
nikonuserf100 0 Posted April 17, 2004 I like this. It is very interesting but I think everyone would like to know where this is at. What area of Utah? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 17, 2004 I have the same question as Kevin - Could you tell us where this is? Knowing a little bit about the dramatic light of the SouthWest, I think this is a fine effort. Cheers. MP Link to comment
kevphoto 0 Posted April 17, 2004 This is sometimes called Mile 28.1 Canyon and is sometimes called Leprechaun Canyon. It is just off of state HW 95 (at mile marker 28.1), about 3 miles past 276 going towards Hite. Higher up this is a slot canyon involving a few short rappels and lots of tight areas (walking sideways). I personally really like the wide-angle perspective--it really gives a good feel for the canyon. Link to comment
kenneth_logan 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Part of what attracted me to this image was the very smallness of the people, so I would not change that significantly. Tough question about the blown-out highlights at top: Looks to me as though even if you closed down 1/3 to 1 stop (as the 10D deals with stops, and sacrificing some shadow detail at upper right) you're still going to have blown-out highlights. So I suspect that no exposure change is necessary. Maybe a little recomposition would have been helpful: a little less of the blown-out sky showing at the top. Link to comment
