vorlandphotography 0 Posted April 16, 2004 This is one tough looking bird! As always, your images are stupendous, no matter what the subject. Link to comment
michael_ritchie 0 Posted April 16, 2004 I Bet this bird is a bouncer in his world. and I reckon he's thinking, "Come closer mate...I Dare you!" Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted April 16, 2004 Well........It snapped at me when I got too near. Seems not to be afraid of anything, even people. Link to comment
paul_muresan 0 Posted April 16, 2004 Great bird. I love your photograph. Were have you found such a strange bird ? The pic is also very original because of the bird. Congrats ! Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted April 17, 2004 That's why I took it Paul. Just look at those piercing eyes. Can match any eagle's stare an the extra large beak looks very tough but it's face reminds me of the Do Do bird! Last of the extinct species? Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted April 17, 2004 Come on Alec, isn't it a self portrait done with a cable release? Wonderful image. Link to comment
vikram_bose_mullick 0 Posted April 17, 2004 Damn!! I've always wanted to have a pet shoebill.. what a handsome & powerful bird! Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted April 17, 2004 Uwe! Now you've let the cat out of the bag - which is why this bird has no name yet! But truly it's not a stuffed DoDo bird, it's alive and Kicking! The nearest alternative I have seen is in the movie - "Ice Age". Vikram, with a shoebill like that you must be one of the last "Big Foot" HeHeHe. Link to comment
vikram_bose_mullick 0 Posted April 17, 2004 My Shoebill would never bite me.. I'd raise him right. Just look at him, that is not a killer look.. he just wants to play with a ball. How big are they? Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Vikram, You are knowledgeable! I thought you are just using the term 'shoebill' as a similarity from the look of it's beak. I've checked and was very surprised that it's the correct name for this bird "a Shoebill or Balaeniceps rex". It's a giant amongst other big birds, about 4 feet tall - like the size of two fully grown pelican. It range includes Central Africa from Central African Republic, Suda, Ethiopia, Zaire, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Zaire, Malawi and Zambia. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Great DOF, good sharpness and pleasing tones. That stare is what does it, though - good capture! Link to comment
thanhthanh 0 Posted December 15, 2005 Alec, an old photographer friend once commented that photos from digitals don't have the "pop", or 3-D affect. Being very "green" with digitals & photography, I simply listened. However, seeing this shot, I'd like to argue otherwise. The bird appears capable of coming out of the frame & snap back! :-) That's quite a look. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted December 16, 2005 Nguyen, I know many top photographers who migrated to digital as now the resolution can be comparable if not better then 35mm film. There's even 22mp Leaf and Hassablad and the 10 to 15 mp DSLRs around today is more versatile then analog cameras. ^_^ Link to comment
Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted April 2, 2007 I just fell out of my chair, man!!! This is my first boss, right down to the hooded eyes and that long, stupid, smug expression! All he needs is a pair of horn rimmed spectacles. Absolutely spectacular! Link to comment
ottotto 0 Posted June 2, 2007 Una bella foto del rarissimo becco a scarpa. Complimenti. Link to comment
