Hi Abdul,

basically, i am not a friend of taking flowers as objects for pictures, so i cannot give you a high originality rating (4), but you have accomplished to picture beauty, both in composition and colours. I like the simplicity of this shot, the white areas lighten the picture up while the leaves lead the eye to the inner core. Perhaps it would be a good idea to turn the black part in the lower right corner also white, but that doesn't hold me from rating aesthetics: Excellent!

So, basically what Sebastian is saying, is that because he's seen a lot of flowers he automatically down-grades his marks substantially, ignoring any thought process behind the composition or the possible existence of artistic or technical merit used to present the image. It's a pity that some folk are so closed-minded.

Personally I like this - it is a well-composed and interesting take on a well-explored subject. I particularly like the gradients in tone on the petals and the way the stamen stands out so well. Looks great!

Hi Andrew,

basically, you are correct. Flowers are a popular subject to deal with and i simply don't consider this shot outstandingly original, even for flower photography. The composition is great, i have mentioned that in my previous posting. But i simply can not give a high originality rating for an artistic approach that simply is not original, but rather standard, even if it is well executed. As you may have noticed on photo.net there are two categories that allow you to rate a photo on , i have given the highest possible rating for aesthetics, and explained why i did so. And it's aesthetics in which composition and technical merit is rated in- not originality. Counter-productive quarrels about my taste do not contribute to the picture, neither do they help Abdul. So what do you think about the black part in the lower left area?

Hi Sebastian (and apologies to Abdul for the ensuing discussion),

I guess my point is that I don't take any objection to any ratings you may have awarded in either category (low, high or otherwise), nor do I take any objection to your personal tastes. Rather, I take objection to the idea that someone might drop some marks off purely because they are, on principle, not a fan of the photographer's subject. In this respect, that makes one pre-disposed to being closed-minded w.r.t. critiquing the thought process a photogrpher/artist might have undertaken in an effort to add a slightly interesting, or different twist on an old topic.

But I think you have made an excellent point in your response by highlighting the differences by which people observe or interpret an image.

Obviously, where I try to look for reasons why a photographer might have attempted something a certain way when I am formulating a mark for originality, you focus more on how well the photographer has made the finished product look unique (although, have you REALLY seen that many images of altered flowers from such an angle?).

Neither of our approaches are wrong - indeed, photo.net is better off for having different people with a range of critiquing methods and I apologise for insinuating otherwise in my original post.

Dear Sebastian and Andrew, Many thanks guys for your comments, I'm so appreciated with that. Flowers are special subject for me to shoot, like other photographers like to take Nude photograph or etc. And for me flowers are interesting and I try to presented them in different way, but still people can see as the flowers. So, I don't mind about the 'very good' discussion here, that's what PN should be, if you give someone ratings under the Average, you should explain it why you gave that low score. I'm very sceptical with ratings system in PN. As so many people irresponsible with their ratings here (in other words, the rating system is abused!). Thanks once again to stopping by and good luck for both of you and keep it shooting!

it really evokes a pleasant mood. the color pastels and shapes are simply marvelous. great job.

the frame is a bit big for my taste and too similar in color to the subject.

Thankyou for your patience - I apologise once again for being involved in a discussion which steered the focus away from your actual photo. On the other hand, the more I come back and look at this, the more the image appeals to me... there's a bright side to everything I guess!

Abdul, once more you managed to create something very nice and original. I know flowers are not considered original like children and pets, but your approach is very original and the result is absolutely excellent. I wish I could get as good as you are!

It reminds me of the paintings of flowers by Georgia o'Keffe and that's why, I really like it.

To the discussion of Orginality: I don't think it's appropriate to generally rate photos below average by its category. I rather would skip the request for critique, since there is no need to rate each&every photo.
