the grey house 0 Posted April 7, 2004 Arlington Row is to be found in one of the most beautiful villages in England - Bibury in the Cotswolds. This row of cottages (one of the oldest in the UK) was saved by the Royal Arts Society member and influential designer William Morris who formed William Morris & Co in 1861 with the goal of re-vitalising the arts through craftsmanship. I'd be interested to hear what you think about the photography. Regards PaulThe Grey House Photography Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted April 8, 2004 Another dramatic piece of work. I particularly like your sky settings that you present here. I also like the detail of the rooftops. Link to comment

jayme 0 Posted April 8, 2004 This is my favorite. I would love to know what the photo looked like before you post edited in P/S & how it was achieved in P/S. The effect is gorgeous. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 8, 2004 Very dreamy photo Paul, I join jayme in her asking for details of how you process it on PS, and the original photo. As usual very good work . Pnina Link to comment
the grey house 0 Posted April 8, 2004 Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions - much appreciated as always. Pnina & Jayme:The steps and filters I used to create this image are: - Using the original below (well nearly, I first very roughly replaced the sky, the original just had a very bland grey sky). I didn't have to be too careful about the blending here as I knew the effects I was to run later would make the joint work more or less invisible. http://www.thegreyhouse.net/bco.jpg - Duplicated the background layer- Inserted a gradient layer with the dark red colouring- Ran the Nik Effects Filter (Midnight) on the copy of the background layer- Changed the opacity of the background layer copy to 65%- Altered the levels to lighten the stonework on the houses- Added the mist with the Mystic Lighting effects tool - Finally ran the Melancholytron plug in to blur the edges- Added the frame Hope that helps. email me if you have any questions. Regards Paul. Link to comment
kristin_morales 0 Posted April 8, 2004 The steps helped. Nice to get a clear picture on the transformation...I do love the end result. I am aligned with the melancholy tone at the moment and the mist adds a great element. Link to comment

sallymckay-lepage 0 Posted April 9, 2004 Paul I think it's awesome that you are sharing your techniques with us. I do believe this is the first time I've seen an original from you. Stands to reason the end result is fabulous considering the beginings. Sally Link to comment

the grey house 0 Posted April 9, 2004 Thanks all for your further comments. Sally - humble indeed, however if the light is just not there and you have an idea of how you wished the scene looked when visited with your camera - then heck, you've just got to try and create what's in your minds eye! By the way the image posted is without any in camera sharpening or saturation - hence looking rather flat. I normally take the 10D RAW file straight when applying lots of effects to an image. This is the second in a series of about 5 images (all a similar style) that I'm using for part of an exhibition I'm running later this year. Therefore your feedback on this work is most valuable. amills 0 Posted April 9, 2004 The red in the background makes this seem kind of dark and .. evil(?). the white fog looks cool in front of it. great manipulating.Adam. Link to comment

lapalice 0 Posted April 9, 2004 WoW! Amazing! It is great to see the original shot, and see how you transformed it into this beautiful scenery! May I ask you which version of photoshop you are using? I can't seem to find this MIDNIGHT filter... It would be nice to see other original pictures that you have taken! Meanwhile, your imagination with colour and the way you use it to transform your pictures is just marvelous ! Link to comment
