Saw this kind of thing alot in asia in varied stages of development... I think this little fella has mange - Its only funny for a while cos I think this is terminal, and a pretty painful, slow death - any vets out there know more?

And...

my my, what strange feet you have!

Not to worry, Anthony..no mange. If you look at the link, it describes the sensitivity of the hairless dog, and the lack of fleas [Nowhere to run, baby, nowhere to hide] This is a characteristic of the breed and although not pretty, certainly not mangy....

Hmmm, looks like an alien, did you experience any strange vibrations around this creature? The eyes seem very knowing . . .!

Linda, I don't think I have ever commented on your images, but am quite aware of your work. I really enjoy it and visit often. It is a wonderful viewpoint.

The score I give is symbolic. It represents my feelings for all your images... Dave

I don't know how you always manage to find these unusual shots - and the color only adds to the enjoyment of this photo.

and I would love to have one of them. There were several varieties of hairless dogs in America before Columbus. In Mexico for instance they are called Xoloizcuintle (an Aztec name, the exact spelling may change) because they were named after Xolos, the god of the underworld (kind of what Anubis (?) was for the Egyptians). They were his companions... I have know a couple of them and they are very sweet dogs. The problem is that their skin is similar to human skin and needs to be taken good care of: Body lotion, oil, etc (no kiding). Just think what your skin would look like if you were running naked all the time under the Peruvian sun, rolling on the earth and stuff (I know how that sounds)... Try this if you want some images...

Almost forgot, nice picture BTW ;-)

One last thing. As an interesting detail: hairless is the dominant gene. i.e. Crossing a pure breed hairless dog with a "normal" dog results in hairless. How about that?

Xoloitzcuintle, (fondly referred to as Zolo) Either way positively a wonderful picture of one of two often hairless breeds rarely seen in other places in the world. And I think the lighting is absolutely glorious! Really accentuates the softness of this little dogs eyes and the texture of the floor.

Please say hi to Dad (Rog) for Tohn Jr and I.

Hope to meet you someday on one of your visits to the States.
