g1 0 Posted March 31, 2004 A really good vantage point to show those craters. This photo has so much going for it in terms of relating 3D form; height, distance, valleys, fore, mid and far subjects. My only nit is that the tones of the foreground stone are rather too similar to the midground tones behind, which does give the eye some work to do. However the detail of the foreground rock and shrubbery do manage to allow your eyes to pull it out and separate. Wonderful location, and great composition indeed. Link to comment
mclaine 0 Posted April 1, 2004 That's a good point Ger, I think it will look much better with the rock outcrop lifted a tone or two. Should be an easy manip. in the darkroom. And Nana, thanks so much for your comment, considering I find your landscapes so inspirational, it's really encouraging to read that you think I'm on the right track. Cheers, Link to comment
1000wordsphotography 0 Posted April 5, 2004 That first step looks like a doozie.... Seriously tho... awesome viewpoint, superb shot! Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted April 5, 2004 Yes John, that's Tassie!! I did a long walk down there a decade ago. Wonderful scenery and not many people around. I'd love to go back. Cheers, Uwe. Link to comment
jorge 0 Posted April 8, 2004 Extremely beautiful vista. The atmosphere in the background is masterfully rendered, as well as the tonalities in the water and rocks. Must make an awesome print! Link to comment
andy e 1 Posted April 23, 2004 Man, now that's nice John. I think the rendering you gave it is awesome. Wet print or PS? If its a wet print, did you play around with some split-grading with the contrast. I really like the definition of that crater-lake against the relative flatness of the surrounding hills. The depth is fantastic as a result. Great to see it. Link to comment
