mottershead 0 Posted July 12, 2001 The contrast between the lilies and the leaves is great, and so are the detail and sharpness of the lilies. I would have been tempted to zoom in on the lilies, but that picture probably wouldn't have been as good as yours: making them relatively small in a field of dark green leaves works very well. The very dark areas between the leaves add mystery. Perhaps the lillies should be a little lower in the frame; they look to central to my eye -- but this is minor point. You have managed to come up with a fresh view of a very familiar, if beautiful, subject. Link to comment
tom_whelan 0 Posted July 12, 2001 Thanks for the comments. On the flower position, this was cropped from a version that had was oblong with the flowers in the lower third. I had several people advise me to go with this squarish crop, to eliminate a shadow area that was at the top. Link to comment
peter_sallas 0 Posted July 12, 2001 The deep shadows really bring to the surface the beauty of this photo. Great work. Link to comment
think27 0 Posted March 15, 2002 Nice one Tom! I agree about placement though.. I'd have also liked to see the lilies lower in the frame.. Was this cropped to square? Is there more info in the upper portion? Anyway I think this is your second best flower shot. Love the greens in this! Very moody, delicate shot. Link to comment
