jebakumar_eugene_asirvatha 0 Posted July 10, 2001 Please critique this photo as this is my first photograph of the falls at night . When people look at this , they say this photo looks good . But I know there are obvious flaws in it. If you could suggest better techniques to capture a view like this (I would try that next time when I go there) I would appreciate that . This was taken using ISO 200 film , 10 sec shutter opening on a tripod. Thanks, Eugene Link to comment
dennis_keizer 0 Posted July 10, 2001 It looks like a nice photo to me Eugene. The only flaw I can see is the image looks a little soft. Is the image sharp on the original? Link to comment
shalin_scupham 0 Posted July 11, 2001 What's the center of interest? If it's the mist, then why do you have a tree blocking what looks like it would probably be the best mist? If it's the falls, they're not compositionally a centre of interest. If it's the city, then it's far to small to be interesting. The focus looks a little off too. Photography is the art of subtraction. Also, 200 film sucks. Use 400 or 100, 200 has the bad aspects of each. Link to comment
steve_strawn 0 Posted July 11, 2001 I think I would have included just a bit more to the left of the falls. Other than that, I wish I had taken it. Link to comment
jwenting 0 Posted July 11, 2001 it does look good to me, but there are two things: 1) rescan, and more carefully position the print or negative. it is rotated and out of position 2) the film seems to be beginning to break down. Happens at long exposures with many films, only remedy is to use another film that better withstands long exposures. Link to comment
boko 0 Posted July 13, 2001 nice for a ten second exposure. Your composition is good considering you were probably trying to focus and compose in pitch darkness. I love the residue of light on film.. Link to comment

jim_none 0 Posted July 14, 2001 Living as close to the falls as i do, I have taken a lot of pictures of the falls. I agree 100 film would be better. I think the out of focus look can also be partly due to the mist. A bit more to the left getting more of the falls itself would have worked also. When I go, I usually set the focus to infinity. I do have a few pictures posted here, and would love feedback and comments as well. I am very amatuer, and only been doing it for a year or so. Link to comment
