thomas_turk 0 Posted March 25, 2004 Composition not strict. Vertical on right not needed. Stray stem on right should be removed. Leaf on left should be OOF, by pushing back, but needed there to balance flower... Rear data should be more OOF, just blobs, but yr poor canon optics give poor bokeh..do you ... Due to digital, even giga, the colors r not natural, saturation is not there, clarity is lost, thereby losing life and dimension. Also the pixels CANNOT clearly show highlighted sun, and contrast shadow. Parts of the main flower are over exposed. If u must used still under development, compromised digits, u need spectacular lighting aka jaymaisel.com.. If u want to shoot beautiful nature without spectacular lighting, maybe 2 giga, maybe not, or in the meantime, zeiss with fuji or agfa ultra 100 as done by photos4u.dk..U wanna shoot spectacular fotos, right.. U have to get the FEELING before pushing the shutter. U WILL get it if u study those 2 sites 2000 PLUS shots for MANY weeks. Photo.net have very few extra.ordinary shots, most critics are beginners, or too polite and just say nice shot, others are stupid guys like me who give shitty critiques to most shots...Photography is a FEELING, also read The Tao Of Photography by Tom Ang... the ability to quickly combine all the tech knowledge with composition knowledge, aperture, speed, perspective, light angle, composition parts etc etc etc..from just looking at a scene and feeling it is right, and then making it into a spectacular photo. .. Photos4u.dk had a 2 week holiday in Thailand, shot 18 x 36 rolls, and says most came out as he saw them.. He is, as maisel, a master of light and composition..that we mere mortals can try to emulate.. He has 130 of themon his site..WOW WOW...Hope I havent bored u. TT Link to comment
diana_ralph1 0 Posted March 25, 2004 Thanks for the very detailed critique. I appreciate your advice and will look at those sites. Thanks. I'm embarrassed to say that I'm NOT a beginner photographer, but too embarrassed to tell you how long I've had a passion for photography. I do appreciate your honest evaluation and especially for taking the time to be so detailed! Thanks! Link to comment
charlie_vigue 0 Posted March 25, 2004 Thom, she's not using 'poor Canon optics' at all. You have to mix useful critique with useless equipment snobbery, why? On the image, I think isolating this very nice flower buy recomposing and also reaching in and moving some foliage out of the way would make this a better image, but it is very pretty as is, and take what I say about composition with a grain of salt; I'm still very much a learner. skip_fockelmann 0 Posted March 25, 2004 Quoting you--"but yr poor canon optics give poor bokeh..do you " -TT Its a Nikon moron. Pay attention. Very obvious you bash away happily with no basis in fact or reality. Link to comment
diana_ralph1 0 Posted March 26, 2004 Thanks, Charlie and Skip for coming to my defense about the Canon optics... I forgot to mention that when I thanked TT, but it wasn't important to me. I try to take all comments and use them to help sharpen my skills... I have been at this a long time, but I'm still learning and I hope I will NEVER stop learning. I also realize that photography (like other forms of art) is very subjective and the bottom line is that I must take pictures that please me. It's icing on the cake when others appreciate it, but still, I must try to capture the beauty I see. Thank you all for your comments, I will got back to PS and take some more artistic cropping to this and see what I come up with. Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted March 27, 2004 TTurk has too much developer in his system and his curves need to be adjusted. He's from the old school but one that his dragging his feet into the new digital darkroom and digital age. Work on your focus and dof. Nothing wrong with this. Link to comment
