amypowers 0 Posted July 9, 2001 Well. Hmmn...Its different. Nice clear colors. Wow, I just really don't know how to respond to this. I think the one-eye-closed, one-eye-opened is kinda putting me off. Link to comment
ffresheye 0 Posted July 9, 2001 hi there, this was my entry in a contest run by some aspiring fashion shooters. the theme was "a model with water" my original idea involving the little block letters was to make a slab of ice with the letters imbedded spelling out "hot," which she would hold between her teeth. when the ice melted we continued on with some variations like this one i was trying to be different than how i imagined most would interpret the theme and to make it relevant to a context, like the sweltering summer, along with the double meaning of the word hot so my question is how do you think i did given the theme, and in conveying my take on it? also, what do you think of it as a photo and is it something you could see in a fashion editorial spread or an ad of some sort? lastly, please, please, please leave me your thoughts as opposed to just numerical ratings, rate if u want to, but explain your thinking/feeling in arriving at your ratings thanks a lot, aaron Link to comment
ron_suthers 0 Posted July 9, 2001 I like this image. I would agree, i don't really like the eye much, but it puts me off a little less than amy's photos. I think the lighting is great for the capture you wanted. the model preping is very good too (ie wet hair face heavy red lips.) I think you need fine tuning, that's all. Link to comment
av8r 0 Posted July 11, 2001 I quite like the spunky photo but for an advt. the non-symmetrical eyes can be a -ve. Lighting, pose and colors are hot, the spelling out is perhaps redundant! Link to comment
ffresheye 0 Posted July 11, 2001 thanks for the comments people i'm surprised that the wink bothers so many people, to me it's one of the main things that makes the picture, it was spontaneous on maria's part, not planned. aditya, i gather "-ve" is shorthand for negative? not sure i agree with that, i mean obviously if this would be used in an ad it would be one where the wink conveyed or helped convey the mood or message they would be trying to get across... lots of ads are irreverent or ironic or sassy or spunky to use your word... also, ID magazine, a fashion/culture/lifestyle magazine from england has been featuring models on every cover winking like that for 10 years or so, i don't think they continue with it because it's hurting sales thanks again for the feedback :) aaron Link to comment
av8r 0 Posted July 12, 2001 Aaron, the wink does not quite get across as a wink, not quite sure why, but the eye just appears non-conspiratorally blinking. Regardless, the chutzpah of both the photog and the model comes out very well, and the pic is eye catching. Link to comment
