william_barnhill 0 Posted March 19, 2004 This was an old note / poem left at the Royal Air force Memorial in London. It is sitting beneath a vase of flowers that were left beside a pilot's memorial. Obviously this person's loved one never made it home. Although the note is dated July 6, 1941 it was left at the memorial in recent times. Your thoughts, Bill Link to comment
christian deichert 1 Posted March 19, 2004 The subdued tones set a good mood for the note, but the digital grain seems a little hokey. Link to comment
bentes_world 0 Posted March 19, 2004 Your photo makes me think of a little graveyard in a village in Denmark where there is a small memorial grove for the allied pilots/soldiers shot down in Denmark during the Second World War. 62 flyers/pilots were buried there Americans, English, Australians, Canadians, New Zealands. 46 American flyers were dig up and brought home in 1948. On each grave there is a stone with the name, the date of birth and the date of death. Walking among the graves last year I specially noticed one stone with the name of a very young boy. He was 19 years old and was shut down - only 3 days before the war ended. Perhaps someone once wrote a note like yours. Every year on the 4th of may there is a ceremony as a memorial of the alied flyers shut down in Denmark. I like your photo makes me think. Link to comment
