I like the mood the filter has given you (those hot summer days), and I like the model's expression and pose - the hair is great! However, I think - as the background plays no direct part in the story - perhaps a vertical format would have been better (the composition is not all that good IMO).

It would have been nice if you would have given some comments when you rated this Klara a 2/2 rating. As you can see, I do not believe in retaliatory ratings, in fact I think my originalty rating may be a point high, but the light is good.

Please when you give a 3 can you justify your critique, this site is about learning / sharing and community spirit. And I find that when you look at most people you mark low without constructive comment there own pictures are either of a poor standard or non existent.

Mark, that was exactly my point :-). I actually DO have some comments on this shot, but tend to keep them to myself on people who rate my shots 2/2 with no comments (especially when ALL of the other ratings are substantially higher). I DON'T mind a 2/2 rating if there is a reason and it is explained. However, I know what a 2/2 shot is...those end up as kitty litter, unposted, unretouched and the like. A shot has to be pretty abysmal to warrant less than a 3. I normally would have commented on this shot, but am trying to make a point about 1/1, 2/2 ratings with no comments.

He tries to be very original sending a signal, mine is the best and yours nowhere near as good as mine. Ridiculous

Yes - you are asshole - and this comment and rating is how I respond to your rating my photo"very bad" without any explanation.

The centering of the subject doesn't work well here. At her current position, moving her to the right may be more effective. The tones are nice but the photo appears quite pixelated overall, I'm not sure if it's by jpg compression or poor scanning. I like the warm color cast and flowing hair, nice subject. She might be more effective not staring into the camera and perhaps down at about 7 o'clock at a 45 degree angle.

Furthermore, I must agree with the others. I have no problems with low ratings if the photo truly deserves it. That is how I learn. But when I see discrepancies like yours that goes way against the grain, please explain your rating instead of choosing arbitrary numbers. Your opinion is valuable IF you provide an opinion. We're all imperfect and wish to improve. I hope you take these comments to heart instead of personally. It might do you a world of good.

I gave you a low rating and a comment (something you seem unable to do). Were you after the soft focus effect? In my opinion it doesnt work, the subject just disappears into the background. And whilst I'm on the subject of background, there is too much of it and it is far too messy. Perhaps a tighter crop?

Ratings don't really bother me all that much, but if you rate someone low for something, how about a few comments for your reasoning, perhaps your opinions can make people better photographers.

Thanks for commenting on my photo Martin. You're right my photo isn't the most original photo in the world (I myself have also seen thousands of them). The ratings thing doesn't really bother me much, it's just that I like it if people give me a reason in why they give low ratings, I feel it helps me progress in my photography when I hear other peoples opinions on my work.

Once again thanks for taking the time.
