The wide angle lens made the monuments tilt.

Nice composition, but horrible scan or something. Is your monitor too dark? If so, there's still too much empty space in the earth detail in the foreground.

The sunlight vegetal foreground as opposed to the sunlit imponent mineral background is a potentially very nice idea, and I regret the wide-angle perspective distorts so much the background, to the limit of giving me an uncomfortable dizzyness. Was there any way to shot it, for instance horizontal, with a somewhat longer and therefore less distorting lens?

Yes, the scan sucks and the super wide angle lens has caused the monuments in the backgroud to tilt.

 

I took the photograph right before sunset and, at the time, I was losing sunlight by the second so whatever time I thought I had I decided to use it to find a good spot from where I can at least compose it well.
