Really nice shot! I've viewed and shot Saturn through a 8" SCT, its really awesome to look at through the scope. Do you have any shots of Jupiter; its even more awe inspiring than Saturn. What size scope were you using? Are you in an area relatively free from light pollution (that was the major problem when I had my scope).

I shot this through a 12" meade LX200 GPS using meade autostar suite. I will post some of jupiter

in the coming weeks, Thanks, Bill.

Light pollution should not be a problem for planetary objects because they are bright. Light pollution washes out the subtle detail in dim objects like the Messier objects, nebulae and galaxies. I think this is good in that it shows good banding on the planetary disk.

This was shot (not by me) on an 11" SCT Ultima with 588 images stacked.

Kent, you're a show off (and rightly so)!

William, this is a great capture. I can see from your combined efforts that the odds are stacked up against any of my planetary imaging efforts... Thank you both for posting.

Thanks you for your comments Peter.

Kent,

Your right, the photo that you inserted above was not taken by you. I look forward to seeing your own astro photography?

That said, one of the main goals of this forum is to improve photography through constructive criticism based upon the reviewers personal, firsthand experience, not by making comparison vicariously through others. Posting comparative photos belonging to someone you dont even know and from a web site that posts pictures to sell telescopes serves no purpose and is rude.

My apologies, I seem to have missed something obviously...

The image stacking technique was brought to my attention last year, but as yet, I haven't taken time to experiment with it. I will also look forward to any Jupiter images that you might post here. Only been shooting planets with 400 ISO slide film via eyepiece projection, quite a few years ago...

I'm sure we will all keep a close eye on Cassini.

Please forgive me for having offended you. It was the furthest from my thoughts. Though I am an avid ATM I don't shoot astrophotography. I just shoot earthly stuff. :-) My intention was not to demean your shot but to point out that the edge clarity is so dependent on the number of stacks. What amazes me is that with a large number of stacks a planetary photograph approaches, finally, what you see in real time with your own eye. Please carry on. I will butt out.

Bill:

I think you misunderstood Kent. He actualy pointed out that your picture is a good example of stacking up different exposures. I didn't "catch" any ill intentions from his part.
