Crystal Planet

scott_eaton

Canon 50mm Macro - handheld - ISO 200. Available light. Desaturated of course. I caught this shot outside my house on a crisp spring morning where morning dew had crystalized on the myrtle. Extremely cool. The width of this frame lifewise was about 2 1/2 inches across. I could have used some more depth of field, but my tripod was at work and I had no choice but to handhold, so cut me some slack :-)

Hi Scott,

As I look at this image I have a real naggy. I really want to like this image but I find what I want to see razor sharp is the crystal formations along the upper edge of the dominant leaf and that is bugging me. Im aware of the DoF issues with macro so addressing this may likely throw the face of the leaf too OOF. If so an alternative might have been two or more shots of different focal planes belended (at least if this was in a windless environment)

I think it's a nice subject but the right third is badly out of focus and I'm sorry to say this but it ruins the picture. Are you saying that you have only one tripod? Nature photography is very rarely successful without a tripod.
