fernando sanz 0 Posted March 13, 2004 I took this picture last weekend, while at the beach flying kites. Because I found the original a bit boring, I thought that getting the viewer to pay all the attention in one subject it'd be a good idea. So I thought about the B&W background, and my friend in colour. I haven't finished playing with this picture yet, and I thought that this way I could get some more ideas from you guys. So, please, let me know if you can think of anything I could do to improve this image. Thanks for looking! Link to comment
Uhooru 2,207 Posted March 13, 2004 Basically I like the photo itself, catches a nice moment, and the dog, pulling the kite strings etc. all work toghether well. Also, the coloring is well done. I'm just not sure I like the coloring. It does make the subject snap out, but I'd be curious to see how it looks in pure black and white. Perhaps there's a bit of flatness in the tonality? fernando sanz 0 Posted March 13, 2004 Thanks a lot for the comments Barry. I'll attach a B&W version of the whole picture. Keep in mind that I didn't play at all with the tones/histogram yet; and neither did I crop the picture at all (can't afford too much cropping shooting with just 2MP). When you say that you're not sure if you just don't like the colouring, do you mean that you don't like the idea of having the model in colour, or you don't like how the colours look like? Thanks again! Fernando Link to comment
tomhallphotographycom 0 Posted March 14, 2004 Fernando, I like the photograph and the idea of having created a contrast on the main subject (maybe should ahve done the dog too>??) Accentuates the main subject. I like it. But be carefull with the compression of the JPEG. I have had some good photo's come out wrong because of the roughness by overcompressing the pic. fernando sanz 0 Posted March 14, 2004 Thanks for looking Tom. I thought about adding the dog as well, but finally I decided that this way I'd keep the background a bit interesting as well; while still keeping most of the attention on the main subject. You're right about the jpeg compression. I wish I could shoot using TIFF, I'd not just get better results, but it'd make life easier for me. About the jpeg compression in this photo, well, when I'm going to upload a file here at PN, I usually reduce it in definition by 50%, and then apply further jpeg compression. Since most of the time I'm using a dial up connection I try to keep it as fast as possible (not just for me, but for the other members looking at my work). Link to comment
