Blue damsel fly

ian cameron

This damsel fly had come to rest on a ripened piece of barley grass which happened to be a nice complementary colour. Fortunately thre wasn't a breath of wind and I slowly moved my camera and tripod parallel to the insects body selecting a narrow depth of field to completely defocus the background. No flash used.

I was lucky to get this close with a tripod and a 100mm macro lens

without spooking it. No flash used or available.

Ian, I noticed my ratings were lower than average so I thought I´d clarify. I like the shot allright. I chased blue damsel flies myself without such a nice result, they´re pretty neurotic. Compared to other insect shots I see here I find your pic is giving me just a blue damsel fly in a rather flat position. But still a great effort to get the shot in the first place ...
