The Elfin Hill is an unpretentious small burial mound rising only

about four meters above ground level. It dates back to the Bronze

Age 1700 1000 B.C and is situated in the rural district Stevns.

Small as the hill appears physically, it has played a great part in

legends and superstition in former times both locally and at a

national level. The legend describes the hill as home for trolls,

pixies, dwarfs and elves ruled by the King of Elves. It was a

widespread belief that the elves coaxed humans into the hill. When

returning, people had become odd, deranged or mute. Young men

especially should take care of the beautiful elf maids recognized by

their hollow backs. In the 19th century Hans Christian Andersen

wrote the fairytale The Elfin Hill, and the only Danish stage play

with nearly status of a national play is the fairytale musical

comedy The Hill of the Elves by Johan Ludvig Heiberg both inspired

by the legend. And of course no comparison with the PN elves!

Almost looks surreal. Your lines on your horizon are thrown off by the other lines and are therefore going to look very uneven. Sometimes I compensate for this visual illusion by intentionally throwing my horizon out of allignment... The viewer then has the appearance that your camera is level.

Very interesting image, the trees could be the elves with a modern hairstyle. Good composition and light. Thanks for the info.

Jennifer, I get your point. However, personally I dont think it matter much in this case. Thanks for commenting.

Sarah, Baldur, and Cristina, thanks for your positive comments, I really appreciate it. I too get associations to something troll-like about those poplars, Baldur.

Tak for dine rosende ord Lars, det glæder mig meget, at du kan lide billedet.

There are few sights so profoundly anciently human as are burial mounds. In this case you've expressed its current harmony with the land, which says something about the people who respect its presence.

Simple and wonderful composition. Needs nothing more to stand on its own. Great job.

A very harmonic and well balanced picture. B&W is a good choice for this! Lovely, BR Sakke
