"The Lampost"

Sometimes the shadow of a thing can suggest more than the thing itself.

No. 3 in a series on alienation, dreams and the unconscious. Composite photo illustration. See comment in the thread below for some thoughts on the color blue in photography. Comments appreciated.

After reading Marco Panza (on Newton, if I'm correct), now you're on to Pastoureau...

I certainly see what you mean with blue. I see that blue is your colour texture : you use it as you apply textures. For me they both have the same effect in creating an atmosphere without distracting, and, in a way, erasing all imperfections (in representing the colors and details of the real world) that such type of pictures always have.

Anyway what I like in your pictures is the sytematic link to a "background", a cultural background. After all, culture is what you're left with when you have forgotten everything else.

Continue with these fine pics!

your mask is no human being anymore. She is a shadow now. All the blue has cleaned her soul from sorrow and sin. She is almost ready to vibrate like pure energy towards the sky... But not completely ready yet: she is still attached to human surroundings. The blue ocean has not finished its cleaning job yet. Great work Jim.

My first reaction to this photo was that it was an image of an alien, someone out of place and out of time, even before I read your caption.

Jim, superb work nothin less than 7/7 from my perspective. Thank you also for taling the time to teach us some of your techniques / improve our PS skills. I just wondered (and I'm sure it's been suggested before) whether you would consider wither doing a technique paper for PN or developing a PN presentation to teach us all more about some of the more esoteric facets of PS that you use so well. Regards Paul...

Jim, you are having your " Blue Period".......... after you may have your Rose one? Picasso would have been glad to know that there are artists who are passing similar periods.......poor Kermit! Interesting Jim. Pnina

Blue always seems to add a sense of mystery and mood to a composition, especially more so with interesting shadows, as in this one.

Hi jim -

Picasso did a similar stint in blue...

After reading your comments on my image( thanks -by the way) I spent a delightful couple of hours perusing your images on PN and UF (I'm still studying them).

I am impressed.

I am intrigued by your experiments in Da Da and surrealism. I like Magritte also.

I've only recently gotten back into photography. I have a long way to go to catch up.
