Horses in Hana

vincetylor

www.hawaiianphotos.net/mauiphotos.htmThis was at the very end of the Road to Hana on the eastside of Maui on a very windy afternoon (you can see the whitecaps on the water). I was looking for something a bit different than the typical waterfalls-beach-flowers that fill that two hour winding drive. Once I saw the horses here I hopped over the fence, ran up a slight hill to try to catch an angle that might work which would include a little bit of everything. This was taken on my first trip ever to that island a few years ago when I was still fairly new at this. My equipment was inexpensive then and traveling with it was certainly much easier than than it is now. I have since been back several times only to find nothing worth shooting at all. Your comments and opinions are always appreciated. www.hawaiianphotos.netwww.hawaiianphotos.net/Kauaitours.htm

Very peaceful and calming composition. I wouldn't even have minded cows instead of horses - either are unexpected in this type of water landscape. Vivid colors and nicely balanced, as always.

...with an image like this is that everyone feels compelled to comment on how beautiful it is.

I, for one, think that this is a forum for people to improve, so I'm going to break with tradition and make some suggestions on how to make this image better:

There! I hope you take it as constructive criticism. ;-)

is a ranch up on Haleakala. And it would look just like this. Beautiful photograph Vince! Mahalo and Regards.

This is wonderful! The horses really make this shot come alive with lots of interesting things for the eyes to feast upon. I envy you the blue waters of the Islands. Here in Seattle the water is black year round.

Well, it reminds me horses and landscapes in Marquesians Islands, described by Gauguin. Yes, strong and true colors. I like this picture.

nice shot, but there is no depth, everything (foreground and background) is in the same light colors. looks like a nice postcard.

Vince, I never got a picture this sharp with my Tamron 28-200. Must be the photographer :-) Never saw blue skies like this in Hilo, either....great shot, as always!

I rarely comment on your photos because they are always so good and it is difficult to come up with something original. However, I do often look by!

I see you have been 'Turked!' Isn't he a charmer? He is also a man that confuses himself!

At first he says, "Again, congrats for using and staying with film..makes those digital types go back to try and manipulate their artificial colors every time...."

Then he says, "...the sea is not really that blue nor is the grass that green... "

Wonderful!

... for giving us all, again, the intense urge to comment on your excellent work.

This time, howevr, I wiill do, as Rubens Abboud, take some time to hint at you some additional ideas to improve shots like this one:

5.-

6.-

Hope you'll continue teaching us on all the different techniques to get good landscapes, including fencing, jumping, waking up early, talking to campers and waiting patiently for the sky to open up!

I love the range of greens and the blueness of the sea. Horses always a plus... glad to see this side of Hawaii...worth the jump over the fence and then some.

After all the comments you have received so far, my comment may not mean much. I think this is extremely beautiful. 8 for aesthetics. I would have loved for somebody to take this photograph and make it into a puzzle for me to assemble years ago. I don't have the patience for that hobby these days. The colors are so vibrant and the focus so sharp. :) http://www.portraitpuzzles.com/store/template/product_display.php?NID=13  Unfortunately, they only work from digital photos. :(

Hello, I'd like to see the same photo taken without polarizer. not only the colours are unreal, but the sun stands too high for use of a polarizer (the shadows are short).  In addition, I doubt velvia 50 film, which already exaggerates certain colours, needs any polarizer when sight is clear as on this shot. best regards jb
