Some of the things I like about this....the texture on the stone wall contrasted with the sky, the lighting on the body, the figures in the background....are they shadows of what is real? escaped dreams? ancient petroglyphs? Like all of your images, Jim, it offers up a rich fabric with which to wrap ourselves.....

Hi, Jim.

Are you publishing here chapters of your new book 'sophisticated way of using PS'? This information is priceless.

The new creation of your mind has very high emotional impact and strong spiritual context. Position of main subject is strong, but the most impressive is the huge shade, at least to me. Cold blue tones, the wall with outer world and elegant silhouettes on on it increase the power.

High level of graphical art.

Many compliments and best wishes, Galina

Thanks for the technique on how you go about creating a composition such as this, Jim. Invaluable lessons to be had from visiting your folders! I like this one - the blue color works, as does the shadow on the wall. Almost painful to look at.

Hi Jim, What seems new here ( I dont remember seeing this in your recent images) is the use of two sources of light, that enhances perceived depth of the imageWell,. Dream on! Regards,

You say Curves and Hue/Saturation are mostly needed Adjustment Layers and I will add Selective colors that I use for my work recently.I am with PS since ver.4 and now I am dealing with CS and I can tell that it is amazing tool.

Only if I could have more time, because photography is not my daily job....

The Unpleasant Outcome of Twisted Dreams is a wonderfull photo and wonderfull ilustration how an expert with this tool can provide the dreams in his head come out and make this world for all of us more pleasent and warmly.I really enjoy in every your post and admire your work.

I think all your work is wasted on someone like me! That's not quite true. I have a great respect for the things you do even though I don't always appreciate the outcome. (My taste or lack of it as I often say to people!)

This is a good image though. (Duh!!!) What I like more is the unselfish way you help people understand how you created it.

Krzysztof:

There are a couple of different ways to create shadows.

For the main shadow in "Twisted Dreams," I simply loaded a "marching ants" selection of the tormented dreamer onto a new layer, used the Selection>Transform filter to distort it, added a slight feathered edge, filled it with 100 percent black, and then set the Blend Mode to Multiply and adjusted the Opacity level to what looked right -- probably in the low teens. I wanted to emphasize the shadow of the hand, so I did some further distortion of just that part of the shadow. I also used the blur tool to further soften the edges of the shadow, EXCEPT for the hand and fingers.

The little demons aren't shadows per se -- each one is actually a Photoshop brush that was applied in black with single stroke! I also used Multiply as the Blend Mode at just about the same Opacity setting as the main shadow. --jim

One of my favorites. . . I like the simplicity and the symbolism. You've done a wonderful job with the flowing movement of the demons and the shadow is just incredible. And thanks again for the detailed tutorial . . . maybe someday when I get past photography 101 and ps 101 . . .

Wow! You've shown and told me how you did this and I'm still wondering; "how'd he do this?" You are a master. Your work is so inspiring and makes me want to take my work to "the next level" (which I know will never reach your level). Beautiful work as always.

Hi Jim

I am not only impressed by your work but more than that by the way you let beginners like me have access to your way of creating such unique images. My respect and sorry for my 7/7;):)

Well stated, Jim. The art's pretty darn good too. On the subject of USF for sharpening - have you tried using the high pass filter(Filter>Other>High Pass)? I find it does not usually create as much "noise" (aka halo) as USM. - Mister Ken

Pretty intense. I especially like the freedom of the figures on the "wall". This is an exceptional work of art - and a lot of damn work :^) But ain't it fun!
