Thanks Cristina, still trying to figure out what ticks in PN. You obviously know from your many winning shots.

Photonet ticks because I am not allowed to critique yr shots. When I do that, it stops ticking....will u allow an honest critique of this one, Alec.

if you have spent anytime in SE asia you will know that is a rooster in there, not a hen, and he is by no means a pet. he is being confined to keep him from either attacking other roosters or being attacked. he may even be a fighting cock.

Thomas Turk. My most admirable critique, can you believe I miss your 'no holds barred' comments? Welcome back and please critique any of my images. Sorry for past misunderstanding, perhaps Asians are more sensitive? Still cannot understand why you do not post anything with your vaste experience and fabulous equipment. Need to learn more from you but the links you proposed are not very interesting. Perhaps I didn't find the right pages.

Tony Dadson. Of course you're right. It's a rooster and bred to fight. I am Asian and see this in Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia etc. I typed 'hen' here as it sounds better. But I'll change it to be exact. Thanks for the correction.

OK Alec, just a couple of comments on a rare shot..Having used a tele, the background came right up to the little fella, and we now see, if we look beyond only the kids eyes, the right ear seems to have an extended deformed flap, he has a halo, and two stakes drive through his head.. f2.0 to f2.8 would have done the duty here, thereby also losing the fine details of the slightly distracting soggy hut in the background. A spot of sunlight highlighting even part of the child would have added drama, and given more balance of light and shadow..but that cannot always be ordered to appear at the right moment, and to the right places..That is luck....No problems with composition, natural pose, diffused fighting cock etc...Pity u found jaymaisel.com uninteresting.. I found him a great teacher..Try http||tomturkphoto.tripod.com

As usual Thomas, spot on. I would have love to take time and compose this shot properly. As it is, his mother immediately snatched him away. Of course I can digitally blur the background but then again, it will be manipulating right? BTW, I'm not refering to Jay Maisel's website. His images are outstanding. Thanks for the link but I couldn't open yours:

Thanks Thomas, I managed to view your photos. Very very good but take quite a long time to load. Perhaps it's time to post some in PN? Vienna must be very interesting for landscapes. Phuket is one of my favourite places. I have to be there yearly to make full use of the time-share at Allamanda Laguna Phuket.

Yes, the boy is an 'Old Soul', he has seen a few reincarnations. Well composed image, the criticisms on background distractions are really nitpicking, this is a well seen found image, not a studio shot! A couple of the reasons the image works as both a colour and black and white is plenty of contrast and a correct exposure. Good job Alec.

talking about reincarnation... which side of the cage you're born is of importance... great moment you captured!

This is one of your master pieces, fighting cocks are also common in Cuba, I always find its practice very cruel. Life is difficult. Warm regards.
