travis_daub 0 Posted June 5, 2001 I like your shot very much, but I think it could have had more impact if you could have cranked down that aperture, opened up your depth of focus to the maximum, and gotten the front end of one of those red canoes as your main subject, starkly contrasted to the infinte blue and white background. If possible, bringing all of that into focus, and losing all the other boats, would have made the pic more striking. For the subject you chose, you framed the mountains very nicely. Just enough water-sky-mountain in the photo. Nice work. Travis Link to comment
marcelo pinheiro 0 Posted June 5, 2001 Hi Travis, Thanks for the comment but I used a simple point and shoot camera. Nothing as fancy as a SLR. best wishes, marcelo Link to comment
carl smith 0 Posted June 5, 2001 I have to agree that it does lack some of what the above poster mentioned. But I too have gone on trips with nothing but a point and shoot, as my florida folder shows. (there will be more photos in it soon) Anyway, if you put aside the lack of equipment, its still a beautiful photo. If you could go back there and shoot it again, I'd borrow someones SLR with a sharp lens and some good slow color film. You could have a realy beauty technically if all these little things could come together. Sometimes its just being in the right place at the right time. But taken for what it is and how you captured it, it is an excellent photo. Link to comment
robert bryett 0 Posted August 18, 2001 This is an astonishingly beautiful subject, and one that would make almost anyone reach for their camera, but the foreground is messy and doesn't really say anything. If the object was to produce a photograph of a lovely natural scene, it might have been better to move to the end of the jetty and eliminate the clutter of boats entirely. Or move to another viewpoint with a more flattering foreground. If the photographer wanted to include the boats to say something about the way mankind fouls up natural wonders with cheesy tourist attractions and plastic canoes, then maybe it would be better to move in closer and squat down so that the boats clearly dominate the scene. Guest Guest Posted August 18, 2001 Wonderful image with great color balance and composition. I wonder if a graduated ND would improve the shot? Either way, it is a truly grat photo. Link to comment
m_jackson 0 Posted August 18, 2001 I like the way the red on the boats contrasts with the greens and blues and turquoises of the background. Taking the boats away would make for a totally different picture (though not necessarily worse or better). I think it's well balanced the way it is. Link to comment
melissa_vela1 0 Posted September 6, 2001 Nice colors, great scene to shoot. I felt there were too many things going on in this shot though. There seems to be no dominant in the photo, the eye just wanders over it. This one shot could actually have been broken up into many different interesting shots in themselves. A pretty place to be.
