This is certainly one of the better pet photos I've seen on this site. Usually they are extremely unappealing to me...this one is different...the owner and the pet are connected! The background is very neutral the light is natural, the crop and the composition is befitting of the subject. The only thing about it that really doesn't work for me is the expression on the little girls face...it is saying nothing...in a moment like that I would expect if not laughter then at least a smile, or maybe suprise...something other than the "dead-pan" expression she has in this image. For me her lack of expression takes this shot from being a wonderfully spontaneous moment ...to a set up (staged shot) in which the shot was tried over and over and over again. (The little girl just looks bored.) All in all I'd have to say that this is a well executed photograph that was nicely composed and set up...it only lacks in the girls expression.

Cat expression?

All that I see as a cat expression is that someone is pinching the back of its neck, therefore making

a zombie out of it.

But nice pix anyway...

Hi Barbara...this is such a cool shot...the paw on her nose is really cute, and the saucer eyes on the kitten make it all the more amazing! Thanks for sharing!

You can't train a cat to pat a nose. Believe me, I've worked with Zippy for a long time, and she does what she wants to do. Ever try to train a cat?

This is a very cute image. I like it a lot. Very candid. Very natural.

I've had three cats that I trained. The first two (a gray and white tuxedoed, and a black and white tuxedoed) both learned to come when called, to leave when I snapped my fingers, to sit upon command, and to use the toilet. Oh, for some reason, the black and white didn't allow anyone near my daughter since she was born and would attack anyone, except my wife and me (he weighed 37 pounds, not fat, just a very large cat). The other, a black persian and the runt of the litter also learned to use the toilet (but she didn't allow anyone to see her.... she was a LADY!). I could never quite get any of them to flush! The Himalayan, my fourth and last cat, I gave up trying to train her (she trained ME to flush after she used the toilet). She was set on her ways and chose to use the toilet because she didn't like the feel of the litter beneath her dainty paws.

When cats touch you (as in the image), that's their way of petting someone (as we pet them).

I love this image. Brings back many happy memories.... Thank you for sharing (and the child is gorgeous).

I've seen/worked with a number of trained cats. You can pretty much train them to do anything you want them to do. I've seen them climb trees 15-20 feet up and jump out of the tree on command. I've seen cats that were trained to walk a tight-rope 25 feet up in the air on command, I've also seeen cats use the toilet...I could go on and on. Cats are very trainable.

its an interesting shot actually.

the girl looks as if she's pulling the cats face taught, therefore giving the cat that rather scared expression, perhaps trying to get away ts can only put its paws out? I don't know, the capture certainly makes you think.

I do like it though :)
