thomas_breazeale1 0 Posted February 17, 2004 It had just stopped raining and the first light of the day popped through the clouds and shed these lovely warm tones on the trees. The rainbow was a bonus. These are natural colors that you see here, underexposed by one stop plus the circular polarizer. The Schnieder lens excelled in this contrasty, low light type of lighting but I was not satisfied with it under other circumstances. Please feel free to comment, thanks. arjen van de merwe 0 Posted February 17, 2004 Is this real? Hard to believe, if it is you were both very skilful and very lucky. Link to comment

1000wordsphotography 0 Posted February 18, 2004 This is incredible! I can see why someone might ask if it is real. It is stunning. Link to comment
miles_hecker 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Wonderful mood, color harmony and execution here. And of course great timing. Talk about a vastly under rated shot!! Link to comment

vincetylor 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Like a painting Thomas!...Really. Abslolutely underrated. I will take your word that this is natural. In that case this deserves the best rating I can give it. Superb! Link to comment
thomas_breazeale1 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Please...stop the rates and just send large sums of money directly to my account, thanks in advance!!LOL Link to comment
thomas_breazeale1 0 Posted February 18, 2004 No money from you, give me your Hasselblad that I believe you have only used once! Link to comment
michael_wagner2 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Right place, right time, right exposure. Excellent compostition and sharp focus. Add to that a good eye and you have a 10/10 photo!!! It is a moment to wish for a 4x5, however. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Your point is well taken . And I appreciate your 'encouragement' in that regard .... You're right ! Link to comment
thomas_turk 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Great colors, maybe half a stop less would have clarified the big tree trunk, the main subject, given more saturation to the rainbow, and gotten darker shadows for balance and contrast.. Re the composition, although we have great looking tree and trees, great looking rainbow..I am just wondering out aloud, not to upset any sensitive types, if the rainbow had been closer to the big tree, maybe even bonking right into it, such as emulating a lightning strike, would not the composition be more harmonious, clear and dramatic. seems to me the tree and rainbow are a little too separated.. BTW, it cannot be AFTER rain, otherwise there would be no RAIN..bow to see.. Link to comment
atle.g 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Im afraid i cant send any money, but it will be a great pleasure for me to send you 6 for originality and 7 for Aesthetics for this supberb shot, im not shure it will be appreciated as much as money but...;))!! Link to comment
thomas_breazeale1 0 Posted February 19, 2004 You are correct about the rain,it had been drizzling before but not really rain.Shortly after the image was taken all hell broke loose.Regarding composition, there was a fence all around these trees that did not allow me to change positions such as your suggestion. This image was not even my main concern at the time because I was shooting a sunrise over a nearby pond. When the sun broke through all I could do was turn 90 degrees on my tripod and shoot as many frames as possible, about 5,then it was gone. This was the best I could do under the circumstances. deozmac 0 Posted February 19, 2004 The saturation is incredible. If the scanning process has not accentuated saturation, and your comments seem to state an 'a priori' image, then it's gobsmackingly good - I'll even use the hackneyed term 'awesome'. O 6 A 7 Link to comment
thomas_turk 0 Posted February 19, 2004 The fact that you thought about moving for a different composition, but could not, excuses u Thomas...BTW How heavy is the Schneider zoom..My Hassy with a 120 f4 macro seems almost the limit...that is why I take 35 mm on my trips... Link to comment
thomas_breazeale1 0 Posted February 19, 2004 The Schnieder was like a large stone which was the deciding factor in my descision to sell it.If I remember right this image was near the low end of the zoom but I found that near the high end an unacceptable loss of resolution and contrast plagued my images. The lens was very sharp but the weight and high end characteristics was anathema in the end for me Thomas!!. mark berkson 0 Posted February 19, 2004 Fantastic shot! Looking for one photo (sunrise) and just around the corner this shows up... Some call it luck, others say its being prepared for those rare moments when opportunity knocks. Great job - mark Link to comment
