matthew_priestley 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Nice! But I think I've seen this picture on the front of Hallmark cards for years. Nicely photographed, but very staged. Link to comment
bukovsky 0 Posted February 18, 2004 I did not see any pictures like that even tough I am sure shots similar to this one were done before. There is nothing SO ORIGINAL on this shot. I spotted this bottle at my girlfriend's house, brought it home and then I was just thinking whether to take picture just with the bottle or with something-the rose was just handy from one of the baskets I have at home and that's how this picture was born. I don't think it is some special shot and frankly said I was kinda affraid that it was too centered /to my taste anyway/ but on the other hand I like the softness of colors, that clarity of the shot. In my opinion it is a pleasant shot for eyes. I don't know people, but sometimes I get the feeling that some photography is not appreciated-I am not talking about this picture- simple plain photos are not the taste of many a thanks to digital enhancement the standard of today's photography is very high. What I mean by saying this is that normal photography is underrated, everybody expects something very unusual, something extravaganza and perfect. Does anybody share similar feeling about this? matthew_priestley 0 Posted February 18, 2004 Well, just so you know, I know my previous comment was a bit harsh. It's really very beautiful, and nicely taken. In fact, I think I gave it a decent score from what I remember, but yes, I think photography is a dynamic art. It has changed, but we've only had it for... 150 years? It's not that old, and from then to now, it has come a long way. So even if this picture would have stood out 30 years ago, 30 years is 20%. I'm saying all of this because I want you to know two things. #1: I see this is a very beautiful picture taken by an obviously talented photographer, but #2, you're obviously talented! I'm sure you have more original stuff than this lying around. It's not like the rose was already sitting there, you just put things on a table and took a damn good picture. Does that make sense? Anyway, I'm just a beginner. Link to comment
bukovsky 0 Posted February 18, 2004 I was not talking about the "bottle picture" but general. Ratings don't really bother me, not every picture is to everyone's taste etc etc etc. See the thing I was getting at is a different angle I see. I've seen so many pictures catching a real life in a harsh way and other pictures which were really underrated or ignored. That's what I ment, that people are looking more into the artistic stuff like they will be looking for pictures of a very unusual circumstance or something not common. I don't know if I make any sense to you and you know what I mean :) Link to comment
mellimage 0 Posted February 19, 2004 Mind sharing how you did the lighting? Would love to hear about that.I love the simplistic set up here, the rose is a real decent punch of color but not as overstated as a red one would be. Simple elegance, IMHO. Link to comment
bukovsky 0 Posted February 19, 2004 Actually you are lucky, because I am a lazy boy and the setup is still here-did not have time to clean it up :) 2 x 500 wats halogen construction outdoor lights were used and the light from them was bounced of the ceiling from behind my back. I hope this helps :). Link to comment

lifesaride 0 Posted May 23, 2004 I like this shot very much, still life says many things to different people and this says romance to me. I'm also glad that you gave the "set up" shot, I learn alot from seeing how others get their shot results, a simple set up for a picturesque shot. Link to comment
