louis_greene 0 Posted February 9, 2004 Went climbing this weekend and camped out the night before. A buddy couldn't wait to get on the wall so he geared up and climbed staying low on the wall. I saw the scene and started shooting. Comments welcome. Link to comment
jennifercatron 9 Posted February 9, 2004 REally wonderful shot. This is what the masters dream of catching, and I can tell you that national geographic would take a second look at a shot like this. Looks like you're ready for some big leagues. Will have to take a look at your portfolio to see if the rest is at this quality. Outstanding shot. Link to comment
k2photo 0 Posted February 9, 2004 Cool composition. Maybe just a tad too much dark on the left hand side though. Link to comment
gilbert_fortier 0 Posted February 9, 2004 I agree with Allen for the left side... But otherwise, the "backlighting effect" is wonderful and the purple color it makes on the ice is great too! Link to comment
jimmcnitt 0 Posted February 10, 2004 A great capture! I'm assuming the only lighting is coming from the climber's headband light -- which is amazing! Also glad to see the 10D holds up in arctic conditions. The shutter on my D60 starts misfiring whenever I try to use it a temperatures near or below freezing. Great work. --jim Link to comment
kenneth_logan 0 Posted February 22, 2004 The left side is fine, in my opinion. Adds to the mystery: who needs shadow detail here? Would have been stronger if could see cleats clearly on bottom of left shoe, too, but--under the circumstances--outstanding capture. You did tripod, didn't you? Here's guessing that you did not, and the sharpness is outstanding given the extremely-limited light. Link to comment
louis_greene 0 Posted February 24, 2004 Surprisingly, this shot was taken at ISO 800(!) on a 10D with an f1.8 lens wide open and it still needed a 2 second exposure!!! So yes I did use a tripod, and yes, my friend got sick of me yelling "cool! Stay there, don't move!!" Thanks for all of the comments. As for the left side, I actually did crop off quite a bit from the original and come up with this after much experimentation. I guess I liked that the dark area makes it more obvious that the headlamp is the sole light source. Link to comment
