Lincoln Memorial at Dusk (Best seen Large)

vincetylor

After an entire day of shooting in DC, I had just finished what turned out to be a useless Washington Monument sunset. Laying down on the grass tired and beat; the colors in the sky started to come alive. I grabbed my gear for one final run (literally another 10 minute sprint) to the Lincoln Memorial and managed to shoot about 15 frames before authorities kicked me out of the canal. (Many new laws since 9/11..).... I used a tripod, but the cable release fell in the water.....Your comments and opinions are always appreciated. www.hawaiianphotos.net

Excellent, usually I see it as white contrasting with the pinks reds of sunet. This is a show stopper. Nothing like feeling useless, tried and yet....the human spirit to try once again. Thanks

Magnificent rendition, Vince! Sorry about your cable release, but this one is a definite keeper. How often does that happen? --jim

I'm sure you can easily afford a new cable release after selling this image! A nice, firm hand shake across the web to you. Having said that, since pretty much everything is symetrical, perhaps showing more water and less sky might be even better?

Thanks for your comments...and sympathetic remarks on the cable release. However, just for the record, I only dropped it for a second in knee deep water. And after drying up later that evening, commenced using the very next day! No worries.

I can relate very well to your comment Chips. That was why I shared that experience in my "details". The thrill of the chase is a very motivating factor! When it seems to pay off...the feeeling is a good one...sleep is good...LIFE is good!! Til the next day anyway.... Aloha.

The dark shadows in both upper corners seem like an artifact. Especially as they seem to curve inwards.

Still, great shot, great colors.

...why the authorities would want to keep you from shooting this photo: because that way, their "sanctioned" photog would be the only person to have a shot this beautiful.

Gorgeous. Just amazing.

Nice work.

Actually, the "centeredness" and the symmetry is precisely what strikes the right chord in me for this image!

Where do you think it's manipulated?? While it is true that the signature in the bottom right was not *originally* in the scene when I took this, everythiing else definitely was. Just setting the record straight (since the checked box is not quite enough). Using a filter when shooting an image (according to the Photo.net guidelines) does not make it manipulated. It is the post process. Aloha.

Absolutely stunning Vince.....Perfect choice of composition for this stately and formal shot.

Great Image, Perfect Timing. I'm glad you set the record straight. Some people don't realize these moments of light really do happen on this earth. You have a knack for being there when they do. Of course when someone does this consistently it's not just luck. Great job from a wonderful photog. Thanks for sharing, and consider these comments helpful or rubbish as you see fit.

Absolutely Stunning photograpy. Perhaps you should send a copy to White House and they may let you wade in the canal little longer. :-))

One of the best pictures i have ever seen. Excelent job Vincent. One question. What program do you use to make the frame around the picture??

Vincent - a very cool shot. Great job. I would say it was well worth all the extra effort and hassle from the security people.
