As I progress into photography I think that more and more things like

aperture and shutterspeed and lens choice etc. are getting much

better. So is this compositionaly sound??

To answer your question, Jeroen, no, I think it's compositionally unsound, but it has impact. The essence of the image is repeat patterns, so inter-relations of objects within the frame are subsidiary to this one big theme. Some images can throw compositional principles out of the window, and still come through.

The headlights of the car are like eyes of a creature. For me, the problem with your photo is that both "eyes" are hidden behind vertical bars. Would be better if we could see them.
