I give it a thumbs up in true Roman fashion. You say you stitched this together...was it more than one XPAN shot?

Yes Jim, it was 2 shots. I gave myself a lot of grief by doing this. I should have used 3 or even 4, as there is some pin-cushion distortion near the edges of the XPan frame. Add to this the receding curves of the stadium and that made for quite a decent amount of work in getting them to stitch. A couple of in-between frames would have helped a lot.

I fact I had to use the PS "DISTORT" function to "flatten out" the left-end of the right-hand picture and the right-end of the left-hand picture, prior to submitting them to Panavue. After that, the Panavue program did a pretty good job with manual stitch points, leaving just a couple of "dag" ends (as we Aussies call them) that needed to be tidied up.

<< Photographer's Note: a "dag" is something that hangs off anything loosely. Originally a 19th century slang term used by Australian sheep-shearers referring to sheep droppings stuck to the wool, thus interfering with the clipping process and affecting the quality of the fleece. Now universally used to apply to anything of an inconsequential nature that can be snipped-off or tidied-up with little effort. Can also apply to a person, viz. "He is a real dag". Can even be a term of endearment, viz. "You are SUCH a dag, Tony" >>

As I tell you in my comment on the "Lake Burragorang" picture, to take a good picture in Rome is not simple as anybody can thinks. Tons of good photos was taken from classic points of view in Rome, and beleave me is difficult to take a picture that outstands from the classic roman stereotype. Colosseo is one of the most photographed subjects in Italy (and I feel of the world), but is my advice that your photo, indeed, take the Colosseo inner with an original cut obtained because of the (bi)stretched ratio of your XPAN camera.

And congratulation for guess the roman essence in your mail of comments.

I didnt even realize this was a stitch, thus your efforts must have not been in vain. Ive had a hell of a time getting my panastitch software to work, even the manual points get nothing done, its an arg after arg experience

Calendar shot? Are you nuts!? Write a book, especially if it is a guide to taking great photos. Plans and maps of where to go and what cameras and techniques to use. You would sell gazillions of copies.
