nice black and white. the blownout portion on the nose is slightly distracting. i live the detail in the eyes as well as forehead. perhaps a bit more dof to get the mouth, though as is the dof really emphasizes those eyes. well done.

Great eyes! The ears could be out of Steven spielberg's movie Gremlins. I would like the DOF to include the nose being sharp, but you did what you had to in order to control the background.

Closeup photos of cat's faces are SO passe'!! How many of these have been posted on this website alone in the last year? They are all the same. The cat needs to be doing something or there needs to be another element in the photo to add interest. This, from a cat lover.

Hi everyone.

Thanks for your comments. looking at this photo again, I agree the nose of Scruff being out of focus is a distraction, especially with that white spot. It makes the nose look quite round! At the time I was really trying just to emphasize the eyes, by keeping them super sharp, in the low light.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

Cheers!

I agree with the earlier comment about the Gremlins, that's exactly what I thought!! Adorable kitten there. I have to agree with the earlier DOF comments. The nose blurred out and the right ear out of focus but the left ear being in kinda threw me off. Still, a great pic. thanks!

This photo has GREAT APPEAL. There has been an enormous number of views, animal lovers worldwide absolutely love their pets, and appealing photos of animals are timeless. I suggest you contact a "stock photo" agency with this image, and don't sell it outright, just one-time rights, time after time, and don't take the first agency that is interested. You might make significant money from this photo. John.

Hey Mark, Cat's are a well photographed subject and sometimes (I have a 21 year old cat) it gets a bit old. But this cat radiates happiness and wellness. Which is always a nice change to the s...t you see on TV. Well photographed too. B&W usually captures the atmosphere much better

Definitely not your average kitten pic. DOF tastes vary - it's just perfect for me, more DOF and it would've taken away from the picture.

Hi Mark,

I like the soft nose. I think the selective depth and focus add a lot to the character of this photo. It greatly simplifies the image.

The cute factor is in the eyes the softness of the rest of the photo enhance this. Nice shot. The demand for sharpness throughout the field of interest is a very common and arbitrary demand.

Kind Regards,

Gary
