markcarp 0 Posted January 30, 2004 I took this at a friend's wedding reception. I didn't get a single image of the bride or groom. I spent all the time with the kids. Any comments would be great. Link to comment
steve_simons 0 Posted January 30, 2004 Wow, incredible contrast. It really... punches you in the face, I guess. The expression and DOF are also great, excellent shot. Link to comment

beepy 0 Posted January 30, 2004 Interesting capture. Very nice in black and white. Strong composition. The title seems to me misstated - odd, the expression doesn't seem exuberant. Almost an adult quality - somewhat breathless. I wonder at the dress - almost a bridal dress which strengthens the more than child look of the picture. A very interesting composition. The detail on the dress vs. the wildness of the hair and sense of motion is cool. And how she is holding the dress (again reminds me of a bride). Fascinating picture. Link to comment
wenger 0 Posted January 31, 2004 This image has a ton of energy and flow. Very well captured! I too am not crazy about the title. I think the picture tells a story, but exactly what story it is telling (in this case) should be left up to the viewer. The fact that it can be taken in so many directions is what makes it so spellbinding. Nice job. Link to comment
markcarp 0 Posted January 31, 2004 Thanks for the comments, everyone. I hate titling my images, but I needed to for a show I was doing, so I didn't spend a lot of time on them. I just ended up using the same names here rather than getting a number from the system. I'm not thrilled with it either, but I'm not sure what else to call it. The choice was influenced by having been there. Link to comment
pauli.peura 0 Posted February 1, 2004 The only thing that distracts me just a little here is the darkness of her mouth. Still great moment captured here. Link to comment
k._s._lovington 0 Posted February 1, 2004 Excellent framing and fantastic animated feel. Miles above most kid photos. There is something kind of sinister in this that makes it less cute to me and I love that. cheers Link to comment
azriel_abramovich1 0 Posted February 1, 2004 This image captured my eye immediatly. So many aspects that I like in it! I like how you caught the movement of the girl. I feel I can re-visualize the whole scene! Myaby I am lucky by not looking at the title (untill I read the comments) ;-} Great! Link to comment
markcarp 0 Posted February 2, 2004 I'm glad you see that in there, Kelly; it was part of my intent. A dream of mine is to photograph like Neil Gaiman writes, if that makes any sense. Thanks for the comments, everyone. Yeah, her mouth is an area that bothers me, too. It would probably be a good idea to revisit that with the dodge tool. Link to comment
wenger 0 Posted February 3, 2004 Yes! That sinister feel is why I picked on the title. My initial reaction was that this depicted a child running from danger (like a volcano erupting or aliens attacking) searching her parents. Link to comment
markcarp 0 Posted February 4, 2004 Ah, I can see why the name doesn't work for you then, Thomas. That's farther than I had intended it. I like stories that have some element of danger to them, like the tales about little people of the woods. They aren't evil, but you aren't exactly safe around them, either. If she makes you think that she had just spied Puck at the edge of the trees, then I'd be happy. Link to comment
davidmalcolmson 0 Posted March 22, 2005 An arresting expression full of spontaneous emotion. Your handling of the light, the contrast and the framing enhance the drama of the situation. best wishes. David Link to comment
