Zanzibar dhow

ian cameron

Whilst travelling RTW in 1998 and 1999 I visited the eastern beaches of Zanzibar which are very shallow coral white beaches wth sand as fine as custard powder. A sudden squall whipped up the sea and then blew itself out but the sand hung in suspension in the water turning it to the colour of milk. As if by magic a single red sailed dhow passed by and a twist on the polariser intensified the colours.

This is on eof those times when I think that using the rule of thirds would have been a better idea. Also there seems to be something weird going on with the horizon and sky close in.

I think that you must be referring to the white line and/or the turquoise area, the white line is the waves breaking on the reef and the turquoise is simply the variation in light and sea depth.
