woolly 0 Posted July 26, 2001 Kind of interesting - but not my cup of tea. I'd bet people wouldn't be giving marks as high if you'd taken it with a 35mm SLR vs a digital P&S! To me the "water oscar" looks like a molten soldier giving a nazi salute but his hand is melting off - Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Terminator 3 ...??? Link to comment
ibi_al_ani 0 Posted July 27, 2001 To everyone who wants to see this photo not cropped. I like to present the photo (if Mr. Malcolm Low wont mind) as I imagined it before the cropping. And if it was really like this, then he did a very nice cropping. Link to comment
Kar_N 0 Posted July 28, 2001 Thanks Malcolm, for sharing this dream photo. I think the key element here is the way things can take shape in unimaginable way. I am wondering how you visualize the effect before the flash freezes the action! I downloaded the picture and fooling around with it for a couple of hours in Photoshop. I made a tentative cropping. Then noting the color area ratio, I was tempted to vary the colors closer to two classical color harmonies: yellow-violet and orange-blue. Please click the "Waterdrop" below. The forth one is after desaturation. The original is on the left upper corner. I beg excuses from Malcolm for this childishness. Link to comment
austinshackles 0 Posted July 28, 2001 excellent focus and lighting on a tricky subject wonder how long it took to get this frame? Link to comment
lakelandlee 0 Posted July 28, 2001 I really like this pic... its so crisp and clean ... it just jumps out. Lee Anderson Link to comment
philip_harle1 0 Posted July 28, 2001 I must admit I don't get it - it's some water in front of a plate. The colours are fairly horrid. It doesn't do much for me although I'm sure technically it's quite accomplished. I don't understand the person who said people would rate it much lower if you'd used an SLR rather than a digital "compact" - the equipment is irrelevant. But the end result is, to me, quite unexciting. Link to comment
david_doyle2 0 Posted July 29, 2001 Not to be contrary, but this photo does nothing for me, in fact I have tired of seeing it all week. It doesn't challenge my senses, evoke a feeling, appeal to my aestheic side or make me the least bit curious. Samuel also makes a good point about the dark mass in the upper right (photog?). Just to be fair though to the photographer, this image is better to my mind and would have made more sense. The sense of surrealism is better displayed here with the tip of the hat to Dali water droplets and odd floral plate(?) in the background. Link to comment
woolly 0 Posted July 29, 2001 Philip, I agree that equipment should be irrelevant (assuming it's a camera) but I just have an inkling that as people look at this photo, they're first reaction is - "gee, that's quite interesting, I wonder how it was done". When they see it was with a digital p&s they go "wow - isn't that amazing". The scores subconciously getting bumped up in their head. Of course, I may be completely and utterly wrong. Link to comment
michael_melone 0 Posted July 29, 2001 I like the contrast of direction in this shot . . . While color and swirl are more horizontal, the drops seem to interrupt yet unite the image in a directional counterbalance. Link to comment
vlad_zaharia1 0 Posted August 11, 2001 The composition is a little unbalanced i could say..... I like this photo very much because of the concept(that is the most important thing) I think that the photo reveals an antagonism, ......you know what it is. Link to comment
pauline hulme 0 Posted September 20, 2001 Yet another person loves your photo. I must say that I don't mind that the arch is cropped. As some may say, the mind fills in the gap. You beautifully captured the reflections of the background colors in the water. I liked the fact that the curve of the background colors is present. Great job. This photo is inspirational. dennis_piovesana 0 Posted January 17, 2002 Nice shot,..but I have to say that my eyes were caught by that "dark shadow" on the upper right side...Samuel Dilworth is totally right. Dennis Link to comment
